We made it to New Zealand. A quick two and a half hour flight, and we were in Christchurch. We picked up our rental car and headed straight out of town towards Kaikoura.
It took a bit of an adjustment for Aaron and I to settle into him driving on the left hand side of the road. I only had a few freak out moments.
The drive to Kaikoura was absolutely stunning. We passed beautiful pastures, rolling hills, vineyards, and mountains. As we curved through the mountain pass it was unbelievable to break through and see the ocean water near Kaikoura.
Kaikoura is a quiet beach town that has the most amazing views. "Kai" means food and "koura" means crayfish. We have two nights booked in an ocean front apartment. The accommodations are perfect. We even have a washer/dryer combo that we will use to freshen up our clothes.
We grabbed some dinner at Whalings which is a local pub. Aaron and I enjoyed our meal thoroughly. He had the prime rib, and I had some fish and chips. We were away from the crazy expensive dinners of Sydney and everything tasted so yummy. New Zealand has a local beer called Monteith. We both really enjoyed the Radler. Tomorrow we are excited for lots of sight-seeing.
