I imagine the Hunter Valley region is much like Napa or Sedona. There are endless fields of grapes growing on the hillside and in the valley. For a second day in a row it rained pretty much the entire tour. Nonetheless, we were bound and determined to enjoy the wine.
Our first stop was at Dr. Jurd's to taste his Jungle Juice. Dr. Jurd's is known for the port wine. It was quite a hole in the wall, but a fun stop on the trip.
Next, we stopped at Smelly Cheese Shop. We were able to sample several types of cow feta versus the traditional goat feta. I did indeed sample some of the cheese. Aaron was thrilled that I ate cheese. I guess when in Rome you need to try it.
Our first winery we went to was called Brokenwood winery. It was a lot of fun. We found out the vineyard sells their wine in Napa Valley. You can get the wine shipped to your home, unless you live in Kansas. Oh Kansas how I love your conservative roots.
Next, we had a nice lunch at Blue Tongue Brewery. Aaron sampled some beers, while I continued to enjoy some wine.
Our last winery was called Oakvale. Oakvale is a boutique winery that you can only find in the Hunter Valley. We ended up purchasing their Verdelho. I know me purchasing a white wine, go figure. The woman said it was a veranda wine for enjoying on a hot summer day.
Afterwards, we headed to the Hunter Valley chocolates. The scenery was beautiful in the valley, but it was time to head back to Sydney.
For dinner we finally found a Thai dinner restaurant. We had both been craving it all week. It was a bit odd, because the entire restaurant was one long silver table, so we had the pleasure of sharing our meal with tons of strangers. Aaron devoured his Pat Thai. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel well (no it wasn’t because of the booze) and didn’t eat hardly anything. We are looking forward to heading to New Zealand tomorrow.
