Pancake Rocks

Today, we arrived in Punakaiki.  We took the most scenic route through the Buller Gorge and several national parks.  I don’t think I have been on as many twisty turvy roads.  This country continues to amaze me with the countryside.  I cannot imagine getting any work done, if I lived here.

Once we arrived in Punakaiki, we visited the famous pancake rocks and blowholes.  The pancake rocks are rocks that are stacked much like several pancakes.  They are gorgeous.  The ocean roars with very wonderful tides.  While, we were touring the pancake rocks, we actually turned the corner right when the blow holes were spraying.  We could not have timed our visit any better.

Our hotel is fantastic at The Panakiai resort.  We had a very restful day and took a nap.  I later left Aaron sleeping and walked along the shore line.  I found the most beautiful stones along the coast.  I also caught sight of a couple surfers who were riding the tides.  It was so sweet.

Aaron and I later walked the Truman Walk which was very nice.  At sunrise and sunset this beach is known for its penguins.  Unfortunately, we did not see any.  When we returned to our hotel, we drank our Cloudy Bay Savignoun Blanc, which was spectacular and played phase 10.  Aaron beat me twice.  Go figure.  He is always such a ringer with cards.

There are three restaurants in town, so we opted for the local tavern. Aaron said the funniest thing leaving the bar.  He said all he wants to see are the blue penguins.  Maybe, we will catch a glimpse in the morning.
Aaron and I are having such an amazing adventure together.  We are with our best friend and travel partner.  We couldn’t feel more blessed.  Tomorrow, we head towards Frans Josef to see the glaciers.
