On Top of the World!

This morning we took an amazing helicopter ride to the top of the Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers.  In no time we had risen to the top of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman.  Aaron and I got really lucky and were able to sit in the front seat next to the pilot.  We had spectacular views of the mountains, valleys, and the glaciers that sit atop of these mountains.  Mt. Cook is the tallest peak in all of New Zealand.  The glacier ice was simply unreal.  The crevices and formations made the most spectacular creations.  The helicopter landed on top of the Fox Glacier.  Aaron and I had the chance to get out and walk on the glacier.  The views were absolutely amazing and the ground was as cold as the ice that we stood on.  Aaron even made an ice snowball.  This was by far one of the most memorable experiences that we have had on this trip.

Later in the afternoon, we ventured to Lake Matheson.  On a clear day, Lake Matheson reflects Mt. Cook into its water.  Unfortunately, the clouds had lowered in the afternoon, so we were unable to see any reflections.  Nonetheless, we had a great walk along the trails.  Tomorrow, we head to Queenstown.
